multiple audio power supplies

Up to 4 high performance power supplies and NAPSC in 1 MultiCAP box

Benefits
"Space saving, significant cost reduction, legendary Avondale performance"

The intended audience for the MultiCAP includes Nami Audio owners who wish to significantly but economically upgrade their systems and save shelf space a the same time.

Typically those considering buying Naim Hicap and Supercap power supplies.

Space saving

The MultiCAP multi-power supply houses two, three or four Avondale TPX based power supplies in one single unit, and literally halves the space needed for power requirements in a Naim system.

In space terms, this is equivalent to having as many as four HiCaps or two Supercaps all in ONE box.

Performance upgrade

Performance exceeds all current Naim Audio SNAPS, Hicap and Supercap audio power supplies by a considerable margin.

Economic upgrade

When you compare the cost of a MultiCap4 with the cost of two Supercaps + NAPSC that it replaces, the advantages will make perfect sense to a lot of Naim owners.

MultiCAP Options - 2,3 or 4?

TWO modules MultiCap2 - equivalent to TWO HiCaps or ONE Supercap

THREE modules MultiCap3 - equivalent to THREE HiCaps, or ONE SuperCAP plus ONE HiCap

FOUR modules. The ultimate MultiCap4 - the equivalent of FOUR HiCaps or TWO Supercaps

Upgrade

By nature of its design, customers can start with a MultiCAP 2 or MultiCAP 3 and upgrade later simply by paying the difference in price, plus shipping costs.

Please note that a replacement for the NAPSC is contained as standard in all models and is included in the price.

All cables to connect with various elements are also included.

Naim History

In olden days, Naim pre-amps were supplied by a simple DC regulator system contained within the connected power amplifier. With the advent of the NAP250, a separate power was required as the 250 was purely a power amplifier, nothing more. And so was born the SNAPS a single rail power supply with a transformer, rectifier and the same simple single stage regulator found in the earlier power amps.

This continued to be the standard until the introduction of the 32.5 and the 62 preamplifiers with their need for two 24 volt power rails. The now famous HiCap was born with a large toroidal transformer, massively increased power supply capacitors and heavy current regulators supplying the necessary twin power rails for the Naim preamps.

Up until the launch of the Naim NAC 52, the system remained much the same until an even bigger power unit was introduced at the top of the tree, the so called Supercap.

Essentially, a pair of HiCaps in a full width case, the Supercap now has pride of place in the Naim hierarchy of power units with of course, the attendant heavy cost.

Performance
"Power, absolute authority and grip when the music demands it"

The regulator systems in all of the Naim power supplies bear marked similarities. An industry standard IC regulator in the form of the simple LM317 is decoupled by two tantalum bead capacitors in an attempt to extract a linear performance from this elementary circuit.

Now left far behind by subsequent developments in semiconductor and circuit technology, the simple Naim configurations do not present any problem to designers wishing to extract a better performance from Naim preamps than that given by the now eclipsed LM317 circuit.

Such a system is now available as the highly developed TPX - Triple Regulated power supply. The incoming high voltage AC is rectified by high-speed diodes and stored in a primary capacitor for use by the circuits. A pair of carefully chosen inductors removes any RF (Radio Frequency) and HF (High Frequency) products before the resultant clean DC is stored by yet another large capacitor before being passed on to the primary regulator assembly.

Starting at massive 50 Volts DC for increased headroom, the primary regulator reduces and smoothes this raw DC to 39 Volts, then stores it in a high speed, high current capacitor bank, just right for the secondary regulator to take on and begin its own task. The final regulation, a voltage controlled tracking pre-regulator system, leaves nothing to chance with any remaining tiny artefacts being eliminated at this stage.

Speed and agility are two requirements needed for a linear transfer of DC power for controlling the output of any pre-amplifier. The TPX system excels in super fast delivery and an extraordinary ability to stop quickly when the transient demand has passed.

The result is an insight into the music never before possible, a delicacy previously missing and a power along with an absolute authority and grip when the music demands it.
