We set out to design a drop-in power supply module capable of an INSTANT response to all musical demands but STOPS when the music stops.
Current integrated regulators with their feedback systems fall far short of these parameters unless stringent precautions are taken, as in our TPX power supplies.
Initially, the shunt regulator seemed to meet all our requirements with the one crucial exception, higher noise for reasons of inferior rail rejection.
So, taking a fresh look at the shunt regulator, we incorporated a deceptively simple first stage of regulation, placed before the actual shunt elements.
This solved this noise problem very nicely, and so we developed our Advanced Shunt Regulator - the ASR - which gave us with all the benefits and none of the usual shortcomings associated with shunt regulator designs.
