We decided to make an entry-level preamp (well entry level in cost terms, but not in performance) using the well respected and adored 821 amplifier modules.
The 821 uses a zero overall feedback transconductance design first used in the G1 audiophile preamplifier, and now adapted in simpler form for use in the 821 modules.
Housed in one of our small, extruded cases, it matches the size of the new MSX micro power supply.
We've designed a printed circuit board with pins to accept either the 821S (Standard) or the 821A (Audiophile) modules along with a quality volume control.
To maintain absolute audio purity and to keep costs down, this pre-amplifier will accept only ONE line level source. This might be CD, DVD or Blu Ray player or an audio DAC output.
With a range of specifications such as plug-in local regulator modules, this innovative design seeks to bring true high fidelity reproduction within the reach of all enthusiasts.

Both versions of the 821 Preamp can be partnered with the MSX micro power supply, making a stunning combination on which to build a truly astounding system at an equally astounding low cost.
This now allows us to offer a complete pre-power system starting at less than £1750 (821 Preamp, MSX power supply and S100 dual mono power amplifier kit).
The S100 dual mono power amplifier introduced this year has proved to be an exceptional amplifier and well loved by its owners, is an ideal partner with the 821 Preamps.
Up until now, we have only offered the G1 (Grad One) preamp, along with our TPX1 or TPX2 power supplies. Due to the component selection necessary during assembly and therefore the length of time it takes to build these products, we have not been able to offer a lower cost entry point into the Avondale preamplifier range until now.
We will be offering an upgrade path from the 821 to the 821A via module exchange, and then a favourable part exchange up to the G1 preamp/TPX power supply combinations.
About the 821A Preamp
The audiophile version of the 821, the 821A, uses the same circuit as the 821, but has bulk foil resistors, accounting for the additional cost.
